William Henry (Harry) Wainman was born in Hull on 22nd March 1947 and started as an Amateur with his local club Hull City but signed for Grimsby Town in July 1964 and went on to gain England Youth honours. He served the Mariners for thirteen seasons, making four hundred and twenty League appearances. He had a short loan spell with Rochdale in October 1972 when he played nine games, but otherwise he remained a one club man for his entire career, until he retired in 1977. In all games he played four hundred and seventy-two times and a training injury saw the end of his career. After he retired from football he owned a sports shop and then ran the Saxon House Hotel in Cleethorpes.
